Taking Out the Trash

Wrapping things up at work. Throwing out stuff that seemed like a good idea to keep around, but I don't want to lug it home and no point in leaving a mess for someone else. Showing other people how to do my jobs. Not a lot of joy from them at having more work to do. But, as I recall when I was in that position, the underlying thought was, "Thank God, it's not me."

From my experience when I was a round-of-layoffs survivor, the combination of fear and gratitude generated a strong work ethic that management had little shame in exploiting. Well, it still beats Communism.
